A big night yesterday: “Dry Powder” had it’s opening night yesterday. John and his co-stars Claire Danes, Sanjit De Silva, Sarah Burgess, Hank Azaria, director Thomas Kail and artistic director Oskar Eustis attended the opening night at the Public Theater in New York.
We have added the high quality production stills of “Dry Powder” in our gallery. The previews began earlier this month, on March 1 and has now been extended a final week to Sunday, May 1, with an official press opening on Tuesday, March 22. John stars alongside Hank Azaria, Claire Danes and Sanjit De Silva.
Claire Danes and Hank Azaria have signed on to join John Krasinski in “Dry Powder,” the new play premiering this spring at Off Broadway’s Public Theater.
Sanjit De Silva also will appear in Sarah Burgess’s comic drama. Thomas Kail, the “Hamilton” director who is currently at work directing FOX’s upcoming “Grease: Live,” directs.
Emmy winner Danes (“Homeland,” “Temple Grandin”), who made her Broadway debut in the 2007 Broadway revival of “Pygmalion,” will appear alongside Krasinski (making his theatrical debut in the project) as two colleagues at a private equity firm who have two very different ideas of what to do in the face of a PR catastrophe. Azaria, who starred in “Spamalot” on Broadway and also appeared in “The Farnsworth Invention,” will play the head of the firm whose pricey engagement party landed the firm in trouble.
Variety is reporting that John will make his off-broadway debut in “Dry Powder“.
John Krasinski will make his stage debut at the Public Theater this spring in “Dry Powder,” a new play to be staged by “Hamilton” director Thomas Kail.
Krasinski will play one of the finance-world power brokers at the center of Sarah Burgess’ play, in which the head of a private equity firm must deal with a PR disaster resulting from the blowout engagement party he threw during the same week that his company forced layoffs at a grocery store chain. Krasinski will play one of the company’s executives, who comes up with a solution to the problem but finds himself battling another exec with a different agenda.
Kail’s last outing at the Public was the Off Broadway premiere of “Hamilton,” the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical that has gone on to become a top seller on Broadway. Krasinski’s turn on the boards marks the latest starry get for Off Broadway’s Public Theater, which recently hosted Ann Hathaway in “Grounded” and currently is presenting Lupita Nyong’o in “Eclipsed.”
Burgess was one of the writers on the Woodshed Collective’s site-specific 2011 outing “The Tenant” and has worked on Naked Angels’ monthly podcast “Naked Radio.”
Krasinski, an alum of “The Office,” adds “Dry Powder” to a dance card that also includes upcoming Michael Bay film “13 Hours,” set for release in January. “Dry Powder” begins previews March 1.
